You cannot rely on the library to provide you with copies of basic texts. You should therefore budget to purchase a significant number of books each semester. However, do not purchase a book for any module until you receive guidance from the lecturer taking the module. New books and new editions of established textbooks are published all the time, and lecturers update their reading lists frequently. Textbooks are becoming increasingly expensive. If you are finding it difficult to fund all the books you need why not consider sharing purchases with a fellow student. You buy half and your fellow student buys half. That way you can have access to the books you need more or less when you need them. This arrangement needs a bit of organisation and discipline – but it can work well particularly where you share accommodation with students from the same course. |
