Synopsis of Module
This module is appropriate for accountancy students. This module is designed to provide students with a practical framework to facilitate their understanding of current issues in finance.
This module is assessed by an assignment.
Aims of Module
| 1. | The module aims to provide a practical perspective to finance so that students are familiar with current business finance issues. |
| 2. | The module seeks to provide a basis for students to relate finance theory to practice. This will be done by adopting a seminar approach to teaching. |
| 3. | To enable students to discuss and analyse current finance issues and appreciate conflicting positions. |
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the module the student will:

| • | constructively discuss and analyse current major contentious issues in finance. |
| • | critically evaluate global trends in merger and acquisition activity. |
Outline Syllabus
| • | Theoretical overview of main financial management decisions; investment appraisal, dividend policy, capital structure. |
| • | Review of current UK and International issues in finance. |
| • | Review of a recent UK company flotation and prospectus. |
| • | Case study approach to selected major current issues so as to link theory with practice. |
| • | Detailed review of a corporate restructuring: acquisition, merger or divestment. |
