Problems

It is most unlikely that you will progress through the course without encountering any personal or academic problems. You will probably be able to sort out many of these yourself. However, there may be times—even with what may appear to be minor problems—when it may be helpful to talk things over with a member of staff.

Your personal tutor

You will be allocated a personal tutor who has a responsibility for your personal welfare. You may also approach your Programme Leader directly. If you do not want to do this there is a University Counselling and Chaplaincy service available as part of Student Services.

In difficult cases these people are unlikely to come up with instant solutions—but they will help you explore the issues involved and this may enable you to evolve your own solution.

It is particularly important that you involve the academic staff as soon as possible if the problem is beginning to affect your work or is likely to adversely affect your performance in examinations.

A leaflet giving details of support facilities available to all students is available from Student Services.
